Former Diplomat Fined for Attempting to Sell BTS Jungkook's Hat Left at Ministry of Foreign Affairs

A former diplomat accused of embezzlement has been fined 1 million won by a court in a summary order. The accused attempted to sell a hat left behind by BTS member Jungkook on a secondhand trading website.

On April 28th, the former passport and visa office employee was summarily charged with embezzlement. Judge Park So-jeong of the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Division 2 issued a summary order imposing a fine of 1 million won on the accused.

Last October, the accused posted an advertisement on a secondhand trading website claiming that Jungkook had left a hat worth 10 million won after visiting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make a passport. The accused was selling the hat for 1 million won. He introduced the hat as a unique item that could not be obtained even with money, claiming that it was a hat written by BTS Jungkook himself. He attached a photo of his own passport to the post. As the controversy over the post grew, the accused deleted the post and turned himself in to the police.

The prosecution received the case and filed a summary indictment with a fine of 1 million won. This decision was made after deliberation by the Prosecution Citizen Committee.
